When Revesco Properties, the lead developer of the River Mile Master Plan, asked SAR+ where they might be able to fit an early occupant onto their urban property, the team was beyond thrilled to learn it was to be a site for Meow Wolf Denver. The provocative arts organization fit well with the vision for the district.

Our team quickly studied various site options in pursuit of creating a solution that would align with the mission of Meow Wolf while also future-proofing the vast site for its longer term development vision. The ultimate site selected for Meow Wolf Denver is bound by an interwoven web of surrounding highway infrastructure not only achieved those goals, but thrilled the entire team. The unusual land use sets a creative bar for future development in an area with multiple infrastructure constraints. The site’s parameters also set the stage for a unique, outward architectural expression.

Meow Wolf is a Santa Fe, New Mexico based arts and entertainment company. They are a Public Benefit Corporation, a B Corp, that creates immersive, interactive spatial experiences to transport audiences of all ages into fantastic realms of story and exploration. The group’s first permanent installation, launched in March 2016 in Santa Fe to great acclaim. This site showcases the House of Eternal Return, where guests discover a multidimensional mystery house with secret passages, portals to magical worlds, and mesmerizing art exhibits.

The Source Hotel is a 100-room boutique hotel, market, and creative hub in Denver’s RiNo Art District. The hotel offers unique industrial-chic guest rooms and is home to several acclaimed restaurants like Safta and Temaki Den. The rooftop features both a refreshing pool and Breck Brewery, making it the perfect spot to unwind. It was a significant project for Zeppelin Development, though the company later sold it in 2022, according to The Denver Post.

We completed an interior rehabilitation of this historic church's sanctuary and meeting facilities. The 'before' images showcase just how dark and underlit the sanctuary was. Our design introduced luminous pendants to illuminate the expansive space, drawing attention to the soaring ceilings. Additionally, strategically placed linear lighting highlights the intricate original woodwork, which once appeared flat and unremarkable, but now comes to life with the new lighting accents.

We partnered with Shears Adkins Rockmore (SA+R) to complete the renovation of Colorado Academy’s Athletic Center as part of the school’s “See it Through” capital campaign, aligning its facilities with the values of academics, arts, and athletics. Strategic lighting showcases the raw beauty of the steel frame and brings out the intricate details of the woodwork, adding depth and warmth to the space. Full-height glazing and vertical slot windows bring in natural light and connect the building’s old and new elements, while salvaged materials, such as cubes of old wood flooring and a gym floor medallion, further enhance the atmosphere. The Athletic Center honors CA’s legacy while creating a vibrant, community-focused environment.

Located at the northern edge of downtown Fort Collins, MorningStar at Old Town is a senior living and mixed-use project that embraces the historic character of Old Town Fort Collins. The four-story building runs the full block, anchored on the street level with 20,000 sf of commercial space. Two large courtyards serve the community; the communal courtyard is intended for dining and other activities, and the more secluded courtyard is designed to act as a quieter space for more frail residents. The building is contemporary in character, taking a nod from the historic materials and textures found in the adjacent neighborhood. The main entrance is designed with hospitality-like elements, creating a formal sense of arrival. Common spaces on the ground floor, such as the entry, bistro dining and lounge, and theater space, flow between each other and face the large southern courtyard space, allowing for expanded views and a feeling of openness and light. Both street-level and alley spaces are highly activated with visual interests using landscaping, patio seating for commercial spaces, and an urban courtyard at the alley, revealing a creative ground-level presence. The project is serviced by a new three-story parking structure that has a decorative architectural skin. There are two active railroad lines that run along the western and eastern adjacencies, offering residents and visitors reminders of the active rail transportation that was once so prevalent in the area.

Morningstar at Observatory Park is a 5-story senior living project that takes cues from the surrounding neighborhoods and the University of Denver campus, intending to fit within the historical context by using materials that are respectful and complimentary of its surroundings. The entry sequence uses trends seen in urban hospitality settings where visitors enter via a covered auto court to either pick up or drop off a resident or proceed to the parking ramp. Other hospitality-like design elements include the plaza seating along the building’s front facade impersonating a ‘front porch’ and the location of activated common spaces, such as dining, club, and theater spaces on the ground level behind a very transparent facade. The residential area is approximately 92,000 sf with a subterranean parking garage that offers 48 parking spaces to its residents. Building amenities include a fitness center, bistro, outdoor patios and a roof top garden. The building is conveniently located to offer residents close proximity to community amenities, public transportation, the nearby University of Denver and the opportunity to take advantage of views to downtown Denver and the impressive ever-present Front Range vista.

The COVID pandemic made outdoor dining more important than ever before, and many restaurants enhanced the al fresco experience. Comfort, safety, and the overall experience of guests are paramount. Sarfatty Associates worked with Premier Project Management to design a wood and steel pavilion for the main outdoor dining terrace at Park Hyatt Beaver Creek’s 8100 Mountainside Bar + Grille. This structure will provide guests shelter from rain and snow as well as a place to eat, drink and relax in their ski gear. Integrated gas heaters are provided for comfort and several television monitors keep guests up with the latest scores. The result is sure to be a visually stunning and lively gathering space overlooking the mountainside.
